I get this question always as a traveller.
So guys I want to tell you a secret, which always comes handy for me to make friends and break the ice while travelling Solo and meeting people. When I connect with some people I love to cook for them. COOKING ALWAYS BREAK THE ICE.
In all the countries I have been, all my travels I always carry Indian spices and I always cook for people because I love it.
Like here I met these 4 through a couchsurfing meet up and next evening I was cooking for them Indian food at the guys house and rest of the evening was a beautiful memory.
