Another week of passengers, staff, and society struggling to maintain respectful traveling.
Tourists continue to behave abysmally while traveling. A passenger disrupted a flight after consuming 10 edibles, and another swam topless in an Italian fountain. But now what’s also making news are flight attendants who seem to be at their wit’s end—in a new incident last week, a crew member got infuriated, reportedly without any provocation.
FLORIDA FLIGHTS CANCELLED AHEAD OF HURRICANE DEBBY
Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida this morning. Georgia and South Carolina are expected to have historic rainfall after this storm passes through the states. There are already power outages affecting more than 300,000 people and flight delays and cancellations are also causing troubles. More than 200 flight departures were canceled from Orlando, Tampa, and Miami airports according to FlightAware. Arrivals are similarly affected at the three airports and flights are delayed up to 1.5 hours at Miami due to weather conditions.

All three airports tweeted that fliers should check updates on their flights because delays and cancellations will continue.
TOURIST SWIMS TOPLESS IN FLORENCE FOUNTAIN
It has happened again: another tourist in Italy has made headlines for their stupidity. A woman swam topless in a fountain in Florence’s Piazza Santo Spirito and the video has outraged people on social media. She spoke in English and asked others to join her in her night swimming session. People didn’t appreciate this disrespectful behavior and even pointed out that she might get sick from the murky waters.
Sadly, this kind of distasteful behavior from tourists has become common in Italy. Another video went viral last week where two women were being inappropriate with a bronze statue in Florence. Authorities and locals are calling for stricter punishments from tourists who are caught disrespecting their heritage and monuments.
FLIGHT ATTENDANT LOSES COOL OVER HARMLESS REQUEST
On an Air Canada flight from Casablanca, Morocco, to Montreal, Canada, a passenger asked a flight attendant for a blanket. This resulted in a meltdown from the crew member who tried to get the passenger booted off the plane. The altercation was recorded and shared on social media, where the airline staff tells the passenger that they will behave or get off. Other passengers threatened to deboard in solidarity and the flight was ultimately canceled.
Air Canada said that it was investigating the incident. “We apologize to our customers and deeply regret that their experience today fell far short of what they have come to expect when flying with Air Canada.”

MAN BURNS FEET AT DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
Last month, a 42-year-old Belgian tourist was hospitalized in Nevada after suffering third-degree burns on his feet at Death Valley in California. The man walked barefoot for a brief while on a day when the temperature was 123 Fahrenheit—and the ground temperature would have been higher than that.
It wasn’t clear whether he lost or broke his flip flops. Rangers drove him to higher elevation, from where he was flown in a helicopter to a medical center in Las Vegas. Death Valley can get life-threateningly hot in summers, and travelers are advised to keep hydrated and not be out in the sun during the day.
AMERICAN AIRLINES PASSENGER EATS 10 EDIBLES BEFORE FLIGHT
It was a nightmare flight for passengers from Seattle to Dallas. On July 18, a passenger on the American Airlines flight “propositioned a flight attendant for sex, was repeatedly loud, vaped, bothered other passengers, locked himself in the lavatory, and attempted to open the aircraft exterior doors multiple times while the aircraft was in flight,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Utah said on July 31.
The flight was diverted to Salt Lake City and the unruly passenger, Eric Nicholas Gapco, 26, of New Jersey, is being investigated by the FBI. The shirtless man was recorded being restrained on a plane and the recording also shows him singing, “You say po-ta-toe, I say puh-tah-toh,” as police escorted him off the plane.
It didn’t stop there. He continued to be combative with police and medical staff, and even spat on a police officer. The man later admitted to consuming 10 marijuana edibles without knowing how potent they were. He is charged with interference with a flight crew and attempt to damage an aircraft.
