What is the history of the Karomo/Karuma Bridge in Uganda?

Why was it Constructed?

Who constructed it and in which year?

This Bridge derived it’s name from the Luo word “romo” meaning “meeting” and when the Prefix “ka” is applied as “Ka-romo” then it means (a meeting place).

But not “ruma” (ka-ruma) as corrupted by the Bantus and colonial government of the time.

During the time of wars the Acholi people used to meet and cross from here to render support to their Luo kins the Choope Paluos living across Karomo Bridge (Loka nam). The next place after Karomo is Dima and Choo Pe lwo before Byeole (Byeyalle).

Historically, Karomo not Karuma falls Bridge was constructed to help the cotton and Tobacco farmers in northern Uganda and West Nile regions to cross the rivers, and it was established or constructed in 1963.
